Summer School Book Giveaway

Over six hundred students enrolled in the Fairfax County Public Schools SOAR summer learning program at Hunters Woods Elementary and Forest Edge Elementary were able to browse in our pop-up shop and select a book to grow their home library. The RoSigle crew helped students find the perfect book for their interest and reading level, then trusty volunteers Joan Rose and Roz Rakoff helped each child add their name to a custom book plate inside the front cover.

Reading with Roz

Picture
When long-time Restonian Roz Rakoff approached us with an idea to distribute books to students at South Lakes High School during their weekly shopping trips at the PTSA Food Pantry, we immediately agreed to get involved. Through a partnership with Scrawl Books, an independent bookstore located at Reston Town Center, and guidance from our own favorite librarian, Kim Sigle, Roz selects and delivers books to the pantry regularly. Since the first book delivery in December, 2022, the program has been extremely popular with students.

Welcome to Reston, Dolly!

Dolly Parton Imagination Library is now in Reston! The organization mails free books to children each month from the time they are born until they turn 5 years old. Dolly started the project to raise the literacy rate in her home town, and it worked! She has since partnered with local charities nationwide to expand and reach more children.

How can the Imagination Library help make better readers? Read about it here.

Cardboard and Duct Tape

The Lake Anne Cardboard Boat Regatta is a greatly anticipated annual event in Reston. Building a boat using only cardboard and duct tape that can carry a passenger, stay afloat, and move with speed is an engineering challenge for adults and children alike. For the 2022 and 2023 races, the RoSigle Foundation was the School Sponsor, which gave every Reston elementary, middle, and high school the opportunity to create a boat building team and enter their build in the competition. STEAM on, kids!

Fill The Backpacks!

Every year Kids R First fills thousands and thousands of backpacks with school supplies destined for public schools across Northern Virginia. In 2022 and 2023, RoSigle was the backpack sponsor for Dogwood Elementary School in Reston, covering the cost of backpacks and supplies for every student in need at the school.
